A Study on the Effects of Divorce on the

Family Members

ABSTRACT

Divorce affects a family emotionally as most of the impact of divorce is

observed on the children of divorced families. The children of divorced

families have to suffer a lot due to divorce as they are not able to get love

and affectionate from their parents. Divorce is not a good thing to do but in

some relationships, the circumstances become in such a way that divorce

is the last solution.

In some cases, it is observed that the children of divorced families are

teased by other children of neighborhood or even school mates. The

members of societies also behave differently with the divorced families. A

kind of distance is maintained by other relatives as well with the divorced

families. The current paper highlights the effects of divorce on the family

members.

INTRODUCTION

Divorce is made between married couples in order to break the

relationship according to law. After getting divorce, both; husband and

wife; have to live separately at separate places. If the divorced couples

have any children or a number of children then the responsibility of

taking care of children is given to one of them depending on the current

situation.

Divorce is the end of beautiful relationship that is known as marriage.

Lack of better understanding between husband and wife is the major

cause of divorce. In some cases, it is observed that the husband is very

cruel and used to beat his wife on daily basis. In this kind of situation,

the decision of taking divorce is better in spite of living together as love

and feelings are the base of a beautiful and healthy relationship.

After divorce, it is very difficult for the women to take care of children as

she has no much financial support. In some cases, it is also observed

that the divorced women get into depression and sometimes, divorced

women become like a dead body as they don’t feel anything emotionally

and physically.

The divorced women also become the burden on their parents as they

have to take care of them and their children. Also, the behavior of

children of divorced parents tends to change and in most of the cases,

their behavior becomes violent as they have to hear many bad things

from the people of the societies.

In some cases, the children of divorced parents start losing concentration

in their studies as it is very difficult for them to maintain the focus on

one thing for longer time due to emotional factors. These kinds of

children wriggle for the love from their parents for whole lives. Loneliness

is also observed in these children.

It is observed that after divorce, the women start doing job in order to be

financially independent of their parents. In that case, they have to make

a balance between their work-lives and house.

After getting divorce, it is seen that the most of the male persons do

another marriage. In case of divorced women, they don’t prefer to marry

again as their main aim is to take care of their children independently

which shows their mentality that the most of the divorced women do not

want to trust on other males for marriage. Hence, most of the divorced

women like living alone with their children.

longer terms as with the time all the family members tend to adjust
