Prevention of Cyber Crimes against Women in India

ABSTRACT
Cyber crime is the most critical and risky problem in the cyber world. The term “Cyber Crime” is
not defined anywhere either in our statute or Act which is passed or enacted by the Indian
Parliament. Cyber crime basically defined as any criminal activity that occurs over the Internet. .
Cyber crime is any crime which take place online. Cyber criminals often commit crimes through
the computer networks or devices. People buy tickets through internet, draw money from their
banks through A.T.M, credit cards, send information to friends and relatives through e-mails and
do their business.
Thus use of computers and internets are rapidly increasing at every corner of the world.
India has 10th position in the world with 165 lakh internet users. Because of the use of
computers, today people worked quickly in a shorter time and with less hands. There are some
disadvantages such as on line addiction, cyber disorders, stressful life style and Cyber Crimes.
In India, “cybercrime against women” means sexual crimes and abuses on the internet. There
are some basic cybercrimes that basically happens against women just like as harassment
through e-mail, hacking, morphing, trolling, cyber stalking , spoofing, defamation, bullying, cyber
pornography.

INTRODUCTION :
Every second, many woman in India becomes a victim of cybercrimes .Now, this is the new
ways where a woman’s respect, dignity, safety, privacy and security is being challenged in
every moment. NCRB not maintain any separate record of cybercrime. That type of Technology
is used by some wrongdoer whose target only to defame the women by sending obscene
images , WhatsApp sms, e-mail, stalking women by using chat rooms, websites, and
pornographic video. Today mostly women are not aware about such crime so that they not able
to report for cyber crime.
Cybercrimes happens through fake Id which is created on all social media for i.e, FB as well as
twitter. These are very harmful for women. Due to that type of harassment ,many girls and
ladies has various health issues such as depression, hypertension , women suffer from anxiety,
heart disease, diabetic and thyroid etc.
CATEGORY OF CYBER CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN:
There are some categorize of cyber crimes which are following under as :
1. Harrassment via e- mails
2. Cyber stalking
3. Cyber Pornography
4. Defamation
5. Morphing
6. Email spoofing
7. Phishing
8. Trolling
1. Harrassment via e-mails
This is not a new concept. Harrassment through emails means cheating, blackmailing
through e mail and bullying etc.

2. Cyber stalking
In Oxford dictionary defines stalking as "pursuing stealthily". By the use of internet ,if
someone stalked the women through online mode is called cyber stalking. Cyber
stalking is more common than physical stalking. Cyber stalking mostly take place with
women which are stalked by men. Its target are mostly women as well as girls. In other
words, we can says that Its main targets are mostly females, children which are
emotionally weak or unstable, etc. It is believed that Out of 100 ,75% of the victims are
female. The motives of this cyber stalking has four reasons, namely, for sexual
harassment, obsession for love, revenge and hate and for ego and power trips.
Cyber stalkers harass every victims through websites, chat rooms and email. The
stalker disturbs their targets through private emails as well as public message. In the
age of 16 to 35 females are mostly become a victim of cyber crime. Ritu Kohli Case was
the India’s first case of cyberstalking.
III. Cyber pornography
It includes pornographic websites; magazines produced by using
computer and Internet. Pornography increased through the mode of Internet . In other ways, we
can also known as widespread. Today almost fifty per cent websites exhibit pornographic
material through the use of internet. These materials can be reproduced either cheaply or
quickly on CD Roms, hard disc as well as floopy disc. In the case of Pornography, female has
not knowledge of such immoral publication of her own picture.
IV. Cyber defamation
Cyber tort includes libel. Defamation is also a crime against women in
internet. Cyber defamation takes place with the use of computers or the Internet. It is an easy
method for harassing a woman’s reputation by causing her grievous mental pain.
