Stress and Burnout

ABSTRACT

Stress is the state of tension a person face in his life. Workplace stress is which an

individual faces at his place of work like demanding job and unrealistic targets. Hence a

study was conducted with an aim to assess stress level of educators and organizational

policy to beat that stress in educational institutions and to know the ways they overcome

the stress. The study was descriptive in nature. A sample of 30 employees from the four

educational institutions was the unit of inquiry. The data was gathered through a

questionnaire in the month of December 2017.The findings of the study showed that

majority of employees were facing stress because of heavy workload. Around half of the

workers were distressing by keep silent or be in the company of jolly people. A few

institutes had their own policy to overcome stress, and half of the workers were satisfied

by institutional practices. All employees were eager to learn strategies to overcome

stress.

Introduction

Stress is the rising concern among employees. It’s not only affects employee health

rather hampers the financial health of the organization. Stress has hindered the

professional and personal life of the employees which necessitude the need for the

work life balance in organization. The systematic approach towards work life balance

would help employees to attain individual as well as organizational goals. Sometimes

workplace stress cause acute tension which adversely affects body and mind like blood

pressure, high sugar level and heart attacks in extreme cases. This stress put negative

impact on individual’s productivity and career. There may be many reasons for work

place stress as job dissatisfaction, job design, compensation, relationship with co- workers, physical environment

It’s really important to deal with this stress for personal and spiritual growth. institutions

should also take initiative to provide tension free environment to its workers. It’s the

demand of time if both want to survive in competitive world.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

 To recognize the main reasons behind stress and less productivity.

 To make positive steps towards solving this problem.

 Find an easy way to tackle workplace stress.

Methodology

30 Teachers from Four co educational institutions were selected to collect data. In this

study of workplace stress self developed, structured, closed ended questionnaire was

used for data collection. It has helped us to analyze the reason for workplace stress and

different ways to manage it either on personal level or organization level. A sample of

30 employees from four institutions covered under study was drawn randomly. On the

basis of this data we have calculated frequencies and percentage.

A sample of 30 employees was selected. The overall extent of stress faced by

employees was considered on the basis of score obtained by them. Percentage has

been calculated.

It was found that 77% employees were facing stress and only 10% were having no

stress at work. Around half the employees were working 5-6 hrs daily, only 17% were

working for long hours. Majority of workers were having less than 1 hour rest time, only

17% employees were enjoying long rest du ration about 2-3 hrs.

Reasons for workplace stress

This section deals with reason for stress which includes heavy workload, disturbed

mind of work, disagreement with cliques, unpleasant physical environment, unexpected

meetings, lack of work culture, and any other.
