Consequences of Social Media with a

Reference of Indian Youth

ABSTRACT

From last few years, the trend of using the social media has increased

among the people. With the increasing number of internet users in India,

the social media users are also increasing. The platform of social media is

used by the users in order to share their views and personal pictures and

videos.

Some popular social media tools are Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp and

Instagram. These social media tools are highly popular among the

youngsters. As every technology have some advantages and

disadvantages. Similarly, this platform of social media has some good and

bad points. The current paper highlights the consequences of social media

on the youngsters.

INTRODUCTION

With the help of this social media platform, the world has become small

as now a person can contact with other person without making any hard

efforts. The level of communication has advanced after the introduction

of social media tools.

A user can contact with other user by texting, audio or video calling

through Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger applications. Gone are the

days when we have to write a letter to communicate with others. With

the latest communication technology, any social media application

should be there in a user’s smart phone to communicate with other user

easily.

These social media tools are very popular among the Indian youth and

especially the college going students. A lot of information’s regarding the

current affairs of the nation is also obtained through these tools. Some of

these information’s are real and some are found fake. Hence, it depends

on the mentality of the user to get the idea of originality of the

information obtained.

It is observed that some bad groups are involved in spreading the fake

news through the social media so that more and more users can be

influenced through their fake propaganda. Especially, during the time of

general elections, some political parties spread the fake information to

change the mindset of the users.

One of the bad consequences of social media platform on the youngsters

is that now the young people have started spending more time on social

media and they don’t spend not much time with their family members.

As a result of this, a communication gap can be observed in between the

youngsters and their parents. This is very serious problem in the urban

or metro cities as most of the youngsters of these cities have addicted to

the social media.

If the level of the usage of social media among the youngsters living in

the urban cities is compared with that of rural regions then it is reported

that the youth of latter parts are less addicted to that of former areas. I

some cases, it is observed that higher usage of social media tools may

bring to hypertension and stress among the users. Hence, on should use

these platforms very carefully and intelligently.

Besides some bad results, the social media tools have some good points

too as some of the social media tools like Youtube provides the essential

learning material for the school and college going students. A number of

videos related to the each and every study topic are present on the
