Abstract

This paper attempts to throw light on the complexities of the social fabric of the patriarchal Indian society and how women members of the society have to fight their own little wars at every step against the inherent customs and societal norms to claim their rightful rights as free and equal individuals. On one hand, Indian society boasts of giving an exalted status of goddess to the women folk and on the other treats her as a subordinate who depends upon man for her existence and sustenance.
