Abstract


This study mainly aims to investigate performances of a forced convection solar air heater (FCSAH) using various thermal storage materials such as sand, gravel and iron scraps. FCSAH with heat storage material enables consistent air temperature inside the heater even during off sun-shine hours (17 to 18 hr). The hourly variation of temperatures inside the solar air heater is much higher than the ambient temperature. The inclusion of storage material iron scraps increases the air temperature difference from 5 to 13ºC for FCSAH and the maximum useful heat gain of 967W is also achieved.
