Abstract

The present study examines the grounds on which deletion of item 4 out of the 10 items of the “academic delay of gratification scale (ADGS)”constructed by Bembenutty & Karabenick (1996) can improve its psychometric properties. The subjects as the sample consisted of 488 students (277 boys and 211 girls)pursuing professional courses at undergraduate level  from law, engineering, education andpharmacy departments. Statistics like mean, standard deviation, inter-item correlation, inter-item covariance, item-total statistics and partial correlation coefficient of item 4 are found to be markedly different from the rest of the items from the scale.
