Abstract

Services sector is playing very important role in globalizing Indian economy. Better services on one side help in generation of better sources of livelihood for masses, on the other create lucrative opportunities for tourism sector. In this backdrop, this paper attempts to explore the possibilities of tourism and ecotourism at Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Andaman & Nicobar Islands consisting of 293 Islands are situated in Bay of Bengal.  These are just like ‘Heaven’ for tourists both foreign and Indians as well as indigenous populations. Out of 39 Islands which are inhabited, are the abodes of six Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) earlier known as Primitive tribal groups viz the Jarwas, Onges, Great Andamanese, Nicobarese, Senteneles, Shompens. Among them tribe like Jarwas is still living in Stone Age culture along with their hunting and gathering strategies.
