Abstract

This paper surveys sharply and empirically how the feminism is evolved in Angela Carter’s Wise Children (1991) and how she resists patriarchal roles with her unconventional female characters in this novel. Femininity is increasingly seen as the behavioural norm with masculinity regarded as an aberration or distortion. The various problems that form the terrain of psychoanalysis like bisexuality, lesbianism, dreams, fantasies, rape, incest, claustrophobia and psychosis are studied and the importance that Carter accords to these in her study of women is taken into account.
