First Report On The Occurrence Of Geitleria Friedmann 1955 And Glaucospira Lagerheim 1892 – Two Rare Filamentous Cyanobacteria Form Eastern India

Abstract

Geitleria Friedmann 1955 and Glaucospira Lagerheim 1892 are two genus belonging to Filamentous Cyanobacteria which are very rare compared to other taxa of the same group of algae. In this present investigation the authors could obtain two species viz. Geitleria calcarea Friedmann 1955, Geitleria floridana Friedmann 1979 under the genus Geitleria Friedmann 1955 & one species viz  Glaucospira agilissima Lagerheim 1892 under the genus Glaucospira Lagerheim 1892 from different locations of present Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal, India. According to the available literatures on the said group of organism it was obtained by the authors that all three species obtained during the present investigation are first report from Eastern India. Related ecological investigations were also performed by the authors and interesting result was obtained during this investigation.
