Abstract

This study examined whether or not English language teacher's use of motivational strategies could improve students' motivation and achievement. It utilized the process model of L2 motivation which takes into account various lines of research on motivation in the L2 field and in educational psychology. To achieve the purpose of the study, a quasi-experimental design specifically the pre-test post-test control group design was employed. Two sections of grade nine students with their teachers, from different secondary schools at Nekemte town in East Wollega Ethiopia, were taken as a sample of the study. The participants were selected by means of convenience sampling and randomly assigned to experimental (N=39)  and control (N=40) groups.
