Abstract
The Constitution of India grants equality to women and men although women in India have been given more rights as compared to men. It also grant equality before the law , prohibits discrimination against any citizen on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth and guarantee equality of opportunity to all citizens. Special acts and provisions are also made to empower women. The Constitution of India also empowers the State (Article 15 (3)) to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favour of women for neutralizing the cumulative socio economic, education and political disadvantages faced by them. Though women have been given more rights as compared to men, even then the condition of women is miserable as women often denied of their rights because of gender stereotyping violence against women, social and cultural attitudes, and discriminating laws and practices. In today’s world of technological development, women are contributing in national development including heads of family and representing the nation also. The present paper aimed to know about women discrimination in legal sphere and also suggest remedial measure to prevent gender discrimination in Himachal Pradesh.
