Abstract

Migration from rural to urban areas is a phenomenon that is found to accompany economic development universally. there are social costs of migration, in terms of dislocation of family and community life in the rural areas and congestion and stresses on services in urban areas, particularly in areas, such as, manufacturing, information technology or service sectors, data migration profile of population has become more important.  When a person is enumerated in at a different place than his / her place of birth, she / he are considered a migrant. This may be due to marriage, which is the most common reason for migration among females-or for work. One implication of these trends is that the effect of general development and improvement in economic conditions in the rural areas, on rural-urban migration would be more of a qualitative than of a quantitative character.
