The Main Psychological Dimensions of Sports Performance: An Analysis

ABSTRACT:

Sports Psychology is an applied and Natural Psychology, which deals with the application of psychology in

physical education and sports .It deals with the study of behavior and relationship of sports personnel. A few

decades back physical education and sports were considered as a part of general education. But in modern time the

importance of sports and physical education has reached such a level that has gained its own field and existence .In

reality, education is a broad education having all type of education versed in it. Sports psychology is applicable at

every stage in the life of a sportsman. Heredity and Environment have a major impact on the psychology of a sports

person. Sports psychology and heredity and environment consist of all the structure of a body. Physical

characteristics, functions derived from parents, other ancestry or species. Thus the qualities were having from the

genes of parents. As per the genes of the parents/ancestors a parson will have characteristics like weight, height,

habit, attitude, aptitude, behavior, knowledge, personality, moral and character etc. the main objective of the study

is to know the main dimensions of sports performance. The data have been analysis with some important tables.

Some fruitful suggestions have been given in full paper.

INTRODUCTION:

Likewise the environment also has its own role

for the growth and development of a child. The

home, parents, teachers, family, friends, group,

school, colleges, university, religion, air, cleanliness,

exercise, sleep, village, state etc. are the areas of

environment .Sports psychology touches each of

these points of environment for better results .the

social scientists have proved that the heredity and

environment have 50:50% roles in growth and

development of a child.

Psychological preparation of sports personnel

before the competition, during the competition and

after the competition is most important for the top

most performance in the field of physical education

and sports. It is particularly mentioned here that for

the top performance of a player motivation, learning

and guidance is must to be made applicable at every

stage during the training. Motivation and guidance

leads a person towards achievement of goal. If the

motivator is capable person, he can motivate his pupil

to achieve the highest excellence in achieving the

desired goal. In ancient times Rishi Valmiki

motivated Love and Kush, sons of Sita, to catch hold

the horse of Rama just at the age of 7-8 years .their

children proved their bravery and fought against great

hanuman, laxman, and Satrughan these children

were also ready to fight against their father, ,but they

were asked by their mother Sita not to do so. The

knowledge of sports psychology is very essential for

physical education teachers and coaches. If they do

not know the psychology they may do much harm to

their students.

Objectives of the Study:

Present study have been some following objectives

which are given below:

 To know the main psychological dimension

of sorts.

 To know the impact of psychological

dimension on players performance.

Research Methodology:

Some important information are

regarding with this study have been collecting

with the help of self assessment of players and

results have been analysed and interpretation with

the help of some effective tables.

Role of Psychology during Exercise and Fitness:

Exercise may be defined as voluntary

movement entailing deep and hurried respiration.

Exercise hardens the organs and renders them fit for

their function.

The following table1 shows the achievement of

players after one month training athletics, 100m

sprinters and hammer throwers and wt-lifter in clean

and jerk style on experimental basis. Its shows the

different groups and there score before training and

after training of the players have been given in table

1. It shows that the after tainting the control group 5

sprinter of 100m and Uncontrolled group of 5

sprinter have been decreased and remaining

indicators have been increased shows table 1.

The following table 2 indicates the results of fear, anxiety, tension, stress, strain, depression, tiredness, fatigue etc.

reduces in the players through, swimming, naturopathy, natural diet, yoga, recreation & massage motivation etc.

Psychological awareness of the sports person

 The coach should be aware of the capacity of the

player. He should be warmed up and informed

about the load of exercise on a particular session.

Proper guidance and motivation should be there

while taking exercise. During the practices and

load of the player should be increased gradually.

 The coach should follow the principle of

normal load, over load and crest load .The

player should be apprised of the level of his

performance from time to time. The player

should be given incentive and motivation in the

shape of Cash Awards, Prizes, Medals, and

Certificates etc. The coach should inform the

player about all the records of particular

games/events in respect of Olympics, world,

commonwealth, Asian, National and All India

Interuniversity championship.

 The play should be under constant supervision

the coach with regard to proper Diet, Proper

Rest, Proper Cleanliness, Proper Massage,

Proper Recreation etc.
