Abstract

The present paper is an attempt to evaluate the Indian agricultural trade performance of wheat and rice under WTO regime. To analyze the major commodities under this study, it is found that wheat and rice contributed significantly in gross earnings from exports. As per the latest data release from the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics, Kolkata top commodities in export categories are basmati and non-basmati rice, buffalo meat, poultry products. The trade analysis shows that India has been benefitted to a great extent by establishment of WTO. Trade performance of the commodities has been remarkable and it has been favorable for India that it has accessed new markets for its agricultural products.
