The concept of sustainable development finds a close link to the welfare of people and societal development. Lack of proper attention to the environmental sustainability can lead to the depletion of the national wealth. Handicrafts of India are considered to have a great potential for the employment generation as well as poverty eradication. The world today talks about sustainable development and applying this to handicrafts necessitates an element of innovativeness along with the need to globalize the products as the present market place is quite different from what it used to be. The precarious nature of the handicrafts invites a large number of strategic approaches so as to reach the global consumers and also preserve them for the generations to come. The present paper seeks to study the concept of sustainability of handicrafts by way of secondary study on the situation of the handicraft sector.
