Abstract
Family planning programme in India has been highly successful in bringing down the population since its inception in 1952. It has also been shown to exert its impacts on population health and their well-being and thereby improving the socioeconomic condition of the individuals as well as of the country. As a vehicle of family planning programmes, use of various contraceptives, in addition of reducing the chances of life threatening diseases, significantly help in curtailing the chances of unplanned pregnancies and further reduces the chances of maternal and neo-natal mortality.
