Abstract
The present paper deals with the translation of humour in the film Charulata or The Lonely Wife directed by the famous Bengali film director Satyajit Ray. The translation is a rendering of a text from one language to another language. In this process of rendering a text, the original text from a text is being translated is called the source text or the ST. The other language, on the other hand, into which the text is translated, is known as the target text or the TT. In this film, the original Bengali language of the film Charulata has been translated into the subtitle in the English language. In the translation of the film, the original soundtrack in the Bengali language is the source text and the subtitling is the target text.
