Abstract
In India, Public sector banks play a dominant role in terms of employment and investment. Since the key purpose of public sector banks is to serve public, their performance and development depends on the performance of its manpower. These banks recruit a large number of people, both men and women. The total numbers of women working in public sector banks are growing rapidly and this growth percentage will continue to increase when senior officials in public sector banks retire. Recently, government announced a plan to merge ten public sector banks into four, in order to create global sized banks, to compete nationally as well as internationally. This merger also gives wider scope, in terms of employment as well as productivity. The ample scope in the banking sector and job security in Public sector banks drove many women to opt for bank jobs. In general, work life balance is a person’s ability to perform well in work and in personal life. Women, who have multiple responsibilities, have higher chances to develop stress when there is a lack of proper work life balance. Hence, this study is an attempt to study the quality of work life balance of women employees in Palayamkottai.
