Abstract

Paradox is a  major literary device used by the poets to create feelings of intrigue and curiosity in readers’ minds, to make them think deeper and harder so that they  are convinced of certain ideas , which are contrary to accepted beliefs and opinions. The paper attempts to study the use of paradox in Abdu Rahman’s Pithan. It is a collection of 37 poems written in Tamil. These poems use paradox predominantly as a   literary technique to deconstruct the preconceived notions and established ideas associated with different aspects of human life in order to offer newer perspectives and more meaningful insights about them to the readers.
