Abstract
The work analyzes the affirmative action in education in the context of Indian subcontinent in general. There is ample evidence for the positive effects of affirmative action to uplift the backward classes of society in Indian context. The analysis also upholds the rationale to continue the affirmative policy in the near future in India. The pitfalls of a vague or erroneous affirmative policy in the sub context of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are also discussed. In addition, the issues in the affirmative action policy in Indian system are also discussed. The study advocates a more comprehensive approach towards an equal and just society, where affirmative action in education is one of the most important aspects to achieve the same
