Abstract
India predominantly an agrarian economy and more population depends upon agriculture and its allied activities in rural areas. Hence an overwhelming majority of rural population is mainly depending on agriculture sector both for its employment and livelihood. However, gradually the yield of the farm cultivation decreasing and decreasing their incomes due to unpredictable phenomena.. The rural non-farm sector comprises of wide ranging activities which are directly or indirectly related to and supporting to various agricultural and non-agricultural based economic activities. The activities related animal husbandry, fishing, and forestry and logging form the part of agriculture sector are commonly included in non-farm sector. Other rural non-farm economic activities consists of various traditional and modern manufacturing, mining, quarrying, construction, trading, transport, communication, storage, hoteling, etc. In order to overcome from the persisting problems of un-employment, poverty and a high incidence of out-migration of active population the diversification of economics from subsistence-cantered agriculture to commercialised production of farm and non-farm products has been recognised among the most important alternative options and a necessary policy initiatives.
