Abstract
Europeans came to India for trade, especially goods like spices, cotton, made business great. For the successful journey, they dominated India one by one. Earlier they got the permission to found trading post, then to build forts, later fortification. Their defensive architecture on the Coromandel Coast in two places namely Fort. St.David (Cuddalore), Fort.St.George(Madras). The Coromandel Coast was naturally helps the British for their trade activities which has two three major ports. Before British, the places like madras and Cuddalore position was a village. After their establishment they became headquarters and capitals. Moreover, this activity helps dramatic changes in the three fields like population, industry and trade, which formally named urbanization. Urbanization is a long time process, but impact of British made easier in Indian subcontinent. This study focused on how the British defensive architecture like forts helps the village’sgrowth and to change into city, on Coromandel Coast.
