Abstract
Food and Agriculture Organisation’s Inter Governmental Group On Tea (IGG/Tea) has reportedly started that Tea price may fall sharply as supply may outstrip demand. This raised alarm among the Tea growing Community in India and over the world over more particularly within the small tea grower’s community of the Nilgiri’s District. In line with the FAO’s strategic objectives and an important millennium development goal, the Intergovernmental Group on Tea has given strategic priority to the monitoring of the welfare of tea smallholders (known as small tea growers in India), emphasizing on the impact of changes in the production and trade environment on their income and food security.
