Abstract
The economic development in any country cannot be achieved without direct participation of women and India is no exception to it. Even now, in the world of technological advancement, women do not have equal share in many spheres of life though they are more or less in equal proportion with man in the total population all over the world. Hence, there is an urgent necessity to improve the status of women by well-conceived, planned development programmes which would ensure active community participation for them. In India, one such development programme for rural women through community participation is from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), a concept under Microfinance.
