Abstract
A total of 21 different bacterial colonies were recovered from Agricultural land soil samples collected from different areas of Northern India (Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu). These were then assessed for their antibacterial activity against five different bacteria; Staphylococcus aureus MTCC-6908, Pseudomonas aeruginosa MTCC-424, Bacillus subtilis MTCC-121, Escherichia coli MTCC-1680, Shigella flexneri MTCC-1457. Results indicated that 29% of all isolates are active against, at least, one of the test organisms. Antibacterial activity shown by the soil isolates (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6) lies in the range 0.6 cm to 1.8 cm against the targeted bacteria.
