Abstract

Telomerase plays a major role in end replication problem.  Telomerase with help of his disciples TERT, TER and dyskerin helps in preventing chromosome shortening. But with increase in age the telomerase expression decreases and leads to replicative senescence. With the advent of new technology, gene therapy can be the solution to overcome the replicative senescence. Inhibiting TERT or TERC expression by targeting their RNAs or utilizing TERT or TERC promoters for expression of exogenous vectors the decreased expression of the telomerase can be restored again.
