Abstract
In the present paper an attempt has been made to study the perception of visually impaired persons about social support systems. Three support systems have been included i.e. family, educational institutions, work place as well as society in general. Support from the family, educational institutional (both special schools and institutions of higher education) and work place is positively linked with the success of a visually impaired person. Those visually impaired persons who received sufficient amount of support from their parents, family members, teachers, peers, employers, colleagues and general public achieved higher status in the society and successfully adjusted in the family and society. They are well integrated and have a wider social network, are more confident, have no anxiety or frustration. They feel more secure both economically and socially. Those visually impaired persons who didn’t receive support from their parents, family members, teachers, peers, employers are not well adjusted, are disintegrated, had lack of confidence, more frustrated and are least successful. Some of the visually impaired persons achieved success in life without the support but they faced more challenges, were less confident and had more economically and socially insecure. Their path of struggle was very hard.
