Abstract

Pundit C. Iyothi Thoss was born at Theynampet, Chennai (Madras) in 1945. He was profound literary scholar of the Tamil language. He was a polyglot. He thoroughly analysed the ancient Tamil texts and compared them with the principles of Buddhism. He realized that the most of the ancient Tamil texts had great affinity with Buddhism. He disclosed the original analytical and critical meaning of the texts in his ‘Tamilan’ weekly which was founded by him in 1907. It was published in the name of south Indian Sakkaya Buddhist Society. In the Tamil weekly he reinterpreted and reconstructed the older versions. He also eliminated the interpolation and biased commentaries of them. Accordingly he states ‘Athichudi’ as Thirivacegam’ and presents new meaning to each line of the text which varies from the earlier. He is also viewed as pioneer of Babashaheb Ambedkar, B.R.
