Abstract

Taking into account the colossal mix of higher education institutions of North-Eastern Region, the present study is an attempt to explore user perspectives of HRIS by different higher educational institutes of North-East India to help the administrators acquire better understanding of the HRIS applications. A structured questionnaire was constructed based on previous studies, pre-tested, modified and distributed to 300 numbers of staff members of HEIs. The main findings of this study revealed that no significant difference exists on user perception regarding applications of HRIS on demographic variations on three focus variables (gender, cadre and qualification). However, results show that users’ perception on applications, benefits and barriers of HRIS varied significantly across Higher Education Institutions. Eventually, the present study provides some insights into user perception of HRIS uses, benefits and problems in North-Eastern India’s HEIs that could help Human Resource Management (HRM) practitioners to get a better understanding of HRIS applications, which in turn, may help to face the new challenges and competition, for it is necessary to use HRIS because of its global reach.
