Abstract
The data pertaining to employment and income condition of the respondents during 2014-2015 indicates that the respondents are able to receive higher proportion of employment and income through MGNREGS works executed in the study area. Majority of the respondents stated that after the implementation of the MGNREGS works the extent of migration is reduced and the number of working days is increased. After the implementation of MGNREGS works, there is a significant increase in the consumption of alcohol (41.9%) by the respondents in G.L.Puram whereas the expenditure on education (63.9%) has enormously increased in Seethampeta sample. A major proportion of the respondents feel that the MGNREGS should try to create rural assets and provide them a way to earn their livelihood instead of just making them unskilled wage earners. Activities like horticulture or fisheries through digging up ponds or de-silting ponds can be explored.
