Abstract
Software maintenance nowadays is identified by the huge costs and slow speed of implementation. The software doesn’t get tired, with the introduction of the new requirements, it needs to go through the stabilization phase. The change in one module reflects the change in the other modules. Poor coding skills can lead to the increase in the bug list of a particular software product that affects the maintenance cost. This paper presents the relationship between the better practices of coding and the maintenance cost in terms of the bugs reported. The results show that the bug rate of a software reduces with the increase in the skills of the programming i.e., following the coding standards of the programming language.
