Abstract
The antiquity of Tourism can be traced to the days of yore when man ventured out from his abode and began travelling by foot far and wide in search of food, shelter and livelihood. Tourism is as old as man’s evolution. Tourism draws together people from diverse backgrounds in the one common pursuit of travel, which transcends barriers of age, education, gender or profession. The global proliferation of tourism is largely attributed to intrepid travellers seeking new, unique, authentic travel experiences and a welcome respite from the humdrum of everyday living by travelling to choice holiday destinations. In today’s contemporary world, Tourism encompasses a wide gamut of travelling for work, pleasure, leisure activities and has been rightly identified and designated as an ‘Industry’, in recognition of its enormous economic potential.
