Abstract
The present paper is about Kashmir which witnessed mass migration of Kashmiri Pandits
during 1988-1990 due to the unrest and political turmoil in the state. The rise of militant activity
hampered all social, cultural and political institutions of the valley. It affected the Kashmiri
community in general and Kashmiri Pandit community in particular. In the view of securing their
lives almost 250,000 to 300,000 Kashmiri Pandits left the valley to other parts of India. Most of
them settled in Jammu and few other states of India as well. However there are few hundred
Families of Kashmiri Pandits who did not migrate despite all the militant activities and political
instability.
