Abstract

Maharashtra, one of India’s most industrialized and economically vibrant states, continues to grapple with significant regional imbalances in terms of development, infrastructure, and socio-economic indicators. While western Maharashtra, particularly cities like Mumbai and Pune, has witnessed rapid urbanization and industrial growth, the eastern and Vidarbha regions lag behind in terms of economic progress, healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. This paper explores the root causes of these disparities, including historical neglect, policy bias, uneven investment patterns, and administrative inefficiencies. It also evaluates the consequences of regional imbalance, such as migration, unemployment, and social unrest. Through statistical analysis, government reports, and scholarly reviews, the study proposes policy interventions to foster balanced regional development. The paper aims to contribute to a more inclusive developmental model that can ensure equitable growth across all districts of Maharashtra.
