Nigeria’s Federalism; a study of its Evolution, Development, Practice and its Restructuring

Abstract

This paper seeks to explore the Possibilities inherent in Nigeria’s Federalism; with a critical appraisal of its Evolution, Development, Practice and issues relating to the persistent demand for Nigeria’s Political Restructuring.In applying Riker’s Political Theory of Federal Formations,the study discovered that although federalism is generally conceived as a system meant to integrate diverse groups, especially when these groups are characterized by institutional diversity and organized into a single polity, Nigeria’s federalism has overtime failed to meet this criteria, thus the persistent and consistent call for the restructuring of Nigeria’s federalism.
