Abstract
The rapid growth of digital payment systems has transformed the traditional transaction methods in India, especially after the demonetization decision in 2016 and the COVID-19 pandemic. Systems such as UPI, internet banking, mobile wallets, and debit/credit cards have redefined financial interactions. This study examines the impact of digital payment systems on transaction behaviour in Maharashtra State. Both primary and secondary data were used, and a structured questionnaire survey of 200 respondents across selected districts of Maharashtra was conducted. The findings reveal an increase in transaction speed, transparency, convenience, and security, especially in urban regions. However, issues such as cyber fraud, lack of digital literacy in rural areas, and internet connectivity remain major challenges. The study concludes that digital payment systems have significantly enhanced economic participation and efficiency in Maharashtra.
